The Crowded Planet was created by Margherita Ragg and Nicholas Burns, a writer and a photographer from Italy and Australia. We are avid travellers and lovers of the outdoors, of nature and wildlife.

Over the last ten years we have travelled in 50+ countries during short and long-term journeys, including an uninterrupted 15 month round the world trip. We love sustainable budget travel, avoiding unnecessary flights and making use of locally-owned businesses whenever possible.

About The Crowded Planet

The Crowded Planet is a rapidly-growing travel blog, featuring articles and photo stories on nature and adventure travel from around the world, with an overall focus on travelling responsibly and staying at unique places – from luxury hotels in Gozo to design hostels in Berlin and glamping resorts in Slovenia. There is a mix of destination and how-to articles, as well as posts on local food, street festivals and city exploration from a local’s point of view.

What people say about us

‘You guys at The Crowded Planet. Not a single photo leaves me unmoved’ – A reader

‘I would like to take a moment and thank Margherita Ragg and Nick Burns. During their press trip to Aqaba and Jordan’s Golden Triangle they showed a spirit of adventure and were determined in regard to exploring the destination in every aspect.

Margherita is brilliant in drawing vivid pictures and describing precious moments in her words. And Nick is an artist; He knows how to bring out the beauty in everything he captures with his professional lens.

They have been so helpful in inspiring travel readers and create interest about Aqaba. They were very collaborative in delivering more than they were asked to.

Thank you Margherita and Nick for all your assistance.’

Nancy Tayyan, Tourism Marketing Head Division at Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.

  1. Dear Margherita and Nicholas,

Firstly I wanted to pass on my thanks for the fantastic content and website- I’m currently planning an upcoming multi-country trip (my 4th solo/RTW trip) and struggling to decide where to visit, as will be reaching my 50th country (and beyond!) and am keen to go somewhere I haven’t been before as yet.

I was feeling nervous about Sri Lanka as a solo female visitor, however now feeling inspired by your article will look further into a trip!

The other reason for my email is that I spotted the tab ‘Work with us’ and it sparked my interest- apologies, I appreciate it may be intended as more of a corporate/sponsor invitation but having just left a 4 year position in a 16 year career that I have excelled but never been very happy in, I’m opening my mind and eyes to other more creative work opportunities and there are very few things I am as passionate about as travel.
I am based in Australia, though from London originally and wondered if there were any opportunities to work with you directly, or alternatively if you had any advice for someone looking to get into travel related, ideally remote working positions and would be exceptionally grateful for anything you would be happy to pass on?

    Best Wishes,

    Katie Hicks
